We represent our members' interests to various stakeholders, including government, regulators, funding bodies, and the media. Our Engineering Biology Advisory Committee (EBAC) and BioSolutions Community play a crucial role in this, offering strategic input on consultations, shaping the policy environment, and providing a forum for networking and information exchange.

BIA BioSolutions
Our dedicated community offers a platform for like-minded innovators to connect, share insight, and co-create policy. Community members receive early invites to curated events, policy briefings, and insights directly shaped by peers.

BIA’s Engineering Biology Advisory Committee (EBAC) is the voice for companies practising engineering biology in the UK, championing the UK’s leadership in engineering biology through policy engagement, partnerships, and driving commercialisation. BIA advisory committee members sit on the Government’s Responsible Innovation Advisory Panel (RIAP), and on the UK’s Engineering Biology Advisory Panel (EBAP) that shapes UK policy for engineering biology.

BIA are part of the European Biosolutions Coalition (EBC) and EuropaBio, providing a coordinated voice across Europe. BIA’s membership of the International Council of Biotechnology Associations (ICBA) ensures UK biotech is represented globally, helping address international developments that may affect the sector. For example, our thought leadership on Nagoya and Digital Sequence Information (via DEFRA’s DSI Business Advisory Group) safeguards the UK biotech sector from undue regulatory burden.

Through support of the Bristol and Oxford Engineering Biology CDT and the UKRI Engineering Biology Mission Hubs, we strengthen industry–academia links.
